Thanks
to God that Mr. Billy Pang joined the Canadian
CGBC in March this year as an executive director.
His major duties are: 1. to supply resources to
churches 2. to gather resources through churches
and organizations 3. to serve Chinese worldwide
by the Internet. The following is Mr. Pang's testimony.
Growing up and the pursuit
of the truth - I was converted in 1980
in an evangelical meeting and baptized in Easter
in 1981. I always prayed to God to inspire me
as how to serve him best. I was very busy with
my studies in the Hong Kong Polytechnic Institute
Design Department then but I still tried hard
to serve the Lord, kept up with my daily devotions
and took my classmates to evangelical meetings.
I have loved art since I was a child. I had wanted
to take up design as my future career to serve
the Lord and satisfy my desire for art as a hobby.
My
calling and struggle - After my baptism,
when I had my daily devotions, I was especially
touched when I read about His chosen people turning
their deaf ears to the messages of the prophets.
After struggling for more than a month with this
urge, I shared my experience with brothers and
sisters in Christ. They thought God might be calling
me to spread his gospel. I wasn't sure about that
because I was already preaching the gospel to
my classmates. A few days later when I was reading
"Swing the sickle, for the harvest is ripe.
Come, trample the grapes, for the winepress is
full and the vats overflow ------ so great is
their wickedness!" (Joel 3:13) I felt
that God pressed me to make an immediate decision.
Later when I was reading Isaiah 1: 3 "The
ox knows his master, the donkey his owner's manager,
but Israel does not know, my people do not understand,"
God's message became clearer to me. He wanted
me to leave my current studies and learn how to
help believers to know and love the truth more.
It
was hard for me to accept this calling from God
since I had just accepted Christ and my studies
in art had begun. When I told my pastor about
it, He told me I should avoid the post of a pastor
like I would the fire of hell unless I was sure
it was God's calling. After some time, I felt
that I could not run from the calling. My pastor
arranged to have me talk to professors in the
Overseas Bible Seminary. I didn't expect our casual
encounter to become an interview. Two weeks later,
I received a letter from the seminary accepting
me as a student. Despite the objection of my family
I was sure this was God's calling. I had no choice
but to accept it, so in September '81, I gave
up my beloved art course and started my new studies
in the seminary.
My
training and service - After four years
of training in theology in the seminary, God led
me to serve Him in my mother church Abundant Grace
Baptist Church and later in Evangelism Explosion
III (HK). After three years of training, God's
original calling was clearer to me - to serve
Him in training believers in the teachings of
the Bible. In order to better equip myself, I
enrolled in the China Graduate School of Theology
and took up church shepherding in CNEC. Two years
later, with the introduction of Dr. Milton Wan,
I resumed the course of Master of Ontario Theological
Seminary. When I graduated in '96, God led me
to the work of training Christians in China and
Christian Communications International in Canada.
In '97, I served in Christian Communications International
in Hong Kong and began to work on the Internet.
In
September 2000, I immigrated to Canada, then I
was introduced to the work of CGBC. After a few
months I was well aware of its significance. CGBC
could outreach churches and train Christians as
well as evangelize to the new Chinese immigrants.
After many times of fellowship and prayer with
CGBC staff, I knew for sure that it was God's
guidance. On March 1, 2001, I officially joined
CGBC as one of the servants to serve Chinese churches
and organizations. In the future, I will fight
the good battles with brothers and sisters to
serve our Lord in different posts.
